Participation in the 16th edition of the Sofia Science Festival
Researchers from the Geological Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) and the Institute of Mineralogy and Crystallography at BAS presented a lecture titled “Critical and Strategic Raw Materials in Bulgaria”
On May 16, during the 16th edition of the Sofia Science Festival, researchers from the Geological Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Mineralogy and Crystallography “Acad. Ivan Kostov” at BAS presented the lecture “Critical and Strategic Raw Materials in Bulgaria”, dedicated to the importance of critical raw materials for modern technologies and economic development.
Prof. Dr. Irena Peycheva introduced the audience to the national programme, the distribution of the planned tasks, and the progress achieved so far. Prof. Dr. Mihail Tarassov presented an overview of tungsten, while Assist. Dr. Tsvetomila Vladinova introduced her research focused on titanium. Prof. Dr. Rossitsa Vassileva addressed the highly topical subject of lithium and discussed whether it occurs in Bulgaria. The presentation concluded with the participation of Assist. Dr. Georgi Milenkov, who presented part of his PhD research dedicated to pegmatite bodies from Pb-Zn deposits in the Central Rhodopes and their economic potential as concentrators of critical raw materials.
