Critical Raw Materials Act is a European initiative aimed at ensuring secure, sustainable, and diversified supplies of critical raw materials for the EU economy. These materials are essential for strategic sectors such as renewable energy, digital technologies, aerospace, and defence. The regulation seeks to reduce Europe’s dependence on imports, strengthen domestic capacities for extraction, processing, and recycling, and build more resilient supply chains in support of the EU’s climate and digital objectives for 2030.

The European Geological Data Infrastructure (EGDI) was established to improve access to geological knowledge across Europe through harmonisation, standardisation and cooperation between Geological Survey Organisations.
EGDI plays a key role in developing common geological standards, vocabularies and classifications, enabling consistent interpretation and use of geological information across national borders. It supports European and international initiatives such as UNECE and the United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC).
Through capacity building, training and guidance, EGDI strengthens expertise in applied geology and promotes the use of harmonised geological data for research, policy development and sustainable resource management.

EuroGeoSurveys is a not-for-profit organisation representing the Geological Surveys of Europe. Through the collaborative research and activities of our Expert Groups and Task Forces, and provision of open-access, harmonised geological maps, data, and data infrastructure, we provide the European Institutions, regulators, industry, and the public, with expert, balanced and practical pan-European geoscience data and advice to guide policy and to address key societal challenges.

Based on the experience and background of SCRREEN and SCRREEN2, the prolongation of the project SCRREEN3 will continue to develop and animate an Expert Network which will contribute to expert advice in support of decision-making at the EU level covering all the raw materials and their value chains screened in the CRMs assessment.
The SCRREEN Network is operated by the Horizon Europe SCRREEN3 Project which is coordinated by the French Bureau De Recherches Geologiques Et Minieres (BRGM).
