The Geological Institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (GI-BAS) took part in a highly important and strategic meeting!
On May 19th, we were guests at the conference of the Bulgarian Association of the Metallurgical Industry (BAMI) themed "Metals as a Strategic Asset for EU Independence and Industrial Leadership. Bulgaria’s Contribution to Sustainable Growth"

On May 22th, we were guests at the conference of the Bulgarian Association of the Metallurgical Industry (BAMI) themed "Metals as a Strategic Asset for EU Independence and Industrial Leadership. Bulgaria’s Contribution to Sustainable Growth". The event, held at the Balkan Palace Hotel, brought together a fantastic lineup of representatives from the government, business, trade unions, universities, international organizations, and MEPs.
What did we discuss there?
The discussions were incredibly dynamic and covered topics that affect us all:
(i) Bulgaria's place on the EU industrial map and metals in the global world;
(ii) Policies for decarbonization, energy, and competitiveness;
(iii) How to reduce administrative burdens and simplify procedures for faster growth;
(iv) Investments, climate change, and the potential for extracting strategic metals.
Our contribution:
Prof. Svetoslav Georgiev presented the results of the successful first stage of the National Science Program for Critical Raw Materials. He also outlined the main challenges facing the raw materials sector in our country, where a lot of work still lies ahead.
We truly believe that science and industry must go hand in hand for a more sustainable future!
