Research team under the National Scientific Program "Critical and Strategic Raw Materials for Green Transition and Sustainable Development"

explores new geological areas with potential for critical raw materials

The team of work package I.1. "Deposits and occurrences of critical and strategic raw materials in Bulgaria - clarification and reassessment of available quantities to specify geological areas with high potential for new discoveries of critical raw materials" continues its active field research across the country. Within the framework of Task I.1.5. "Clarification of geological areas with high potential for new discoveries of critical and strategic raw materials", led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kalin Ruskov from the University of Mining and Geology "St. Ivan Rilski", a series of field studies was conducted in various regions of Bulgaria. The researchers visited key mineral occurrences and deposits of: ▶️Copper (Cu) – Radulovtsi deposit; ▶️Aluminum (Al) – Paramun deposit; ▶️Barite – Kashana deposit; ▶️Rare elements – Svidnya mineral occurrence. During the expeditions, representative samples were taken, field XRF measurements were performed, as well as analyses of mineral composition and geochemical characteristics. The results obtained will help to more precisely determine the geological areas with high potential for future discoveries of strategically important raw materials. These studies are essential for improving Bulgaria's resource base and promoting the sustainable use of natural resources in the context of the European raw materials security policy.
